What is a Public Intellectual Today: Wesley Morris
The Changing Human Experience
498 Santa Teresa St, Stanford, CA 94305
The Public Humanities Initiative, and its flagship "What Is A Public Intellectual Today?" speaker series, invite you to a public interview with acclaimed critic Wesley Morris. One of our country's most influential cultural interpreters, Morris is currently a critic-at-large at the New York Times and a staff writer at the New York Times magazine, where he writes about popular culture and hosts the podcast “Still Processing” with J. Wortham. Previously, Morris was a staff writer at Grantland, and co-hosted the podcast “Do You Like Prince Movies,” with Alex Pappademas. He spent 11 years as a film critic at the Boston Globe, where he won the 2012 Pulitzer Prize for criticism. In 2021, he was awarded a second Pulitzer in criticism for his writing at the Times. Morris will be joined in this conversation with Stanford political science professor Hakeem Jefferson.
Morris will engage urgent questions facing young humanists today: what do we need to know about the current state of journalism and criticism? How does multimedia experience serve emergent storytellers? And what do we talk about when we talk about Wesley Morris's mustache?
